Pedrovo

The remote karst village of Pedrovo, which rises above Branik, is a true oasis of silence and peace. From the village church, which is dedicated to the Holy Spirit, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of Branik and the entire Vipava Valley, reaching all the way to the Alps. This suggests the settlement developed in the Middle Ages during the Ottoman incursions. Today, Pedrovo has only a handful of residents, yet at the beginning of the 20th century it was home to more than 100 people. The settlement was famous for its chestnut groves and the largest wine barrel.

However, after just a few decades, the village was almost completely emptied. Once a recognizable terraced landscape, it is now overgrown with a bright forest that follows the main road all the way up to the village. In recent years, new residents have settled in Pedrovo and brought the village back to life. Various cultural events, organic farming and tourism are putting this medieval village on the map once again.
