The historically significant village of Tabor sits on a hill above Dornberk. Visitors are enchanted by the narrow streets, ornate portals, underpasses, old fountains and the iconic bell tower, which lies in the heart of the village, offering a vibrant backdrop for outdoor music events. Thus, every summer the Tabor Musical Evenings are held in this picturesque village.
The almost forgotten Dornberk Castle was dominating the village of Tabor well into the 18th century. In the 13th and 14th century it was owned by the Counts of Dornberg. It then passed into the hands of the Rabatta family, which further fortified the structure due to the Ottoman threat. After the war between Austria and Venice was over in the early 16th century, the castle building began to lose its strategic significance. The nobility moved to Gorizia and the castle was left to decay. Today, little remains of this once magnificent castle.
Not far from the village is the Šantanela lookout point. Known by the locals as Roženplac, it used to be surrounded and decorated with flowers. The chapel once stood on the edge of the castle complex, right in front of the entrance, and served as an observatory. Nowadays, a popular walking trail leads visitors from Tabor to the chapel and back.
