Rikot Wines

Our story

The love for nature and the joy of producing wine stayed with the ''Rikotavi' over many generations. In the past, the family farm engaged in many agricultural activities. Beginning in the 1990s the family gradually dedicated all of their efforts into the winery. The successful estate is now in the hands of the 4th generation. Thinking back, it has already been 30 years since the Rikot family proudly produced their very first bottle of wine.

Wines can be obtained directly at the Rikotova farm estate. Home delivery is possible upon request.

Vineyards and wine varieties

Steep slopes are home to most (90%) of the family’s vineyards. The vines are expanding on flysch terraces with a southern and southeastern exposure. The "Rikotavi" are especially proud of their great assortment of wines, which includes as many as 15 different varieties. The vineyards are planted with pinela, sauvignon, zelen, rebula, malvasia, welschriesling (laški rizling), pinot gris, chardonnay, muscat, pinot blanc, green sauvignon, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, barbera and refosco. Red and white varieties are present in equal amounts, and currently the oldest vineyard with welschriesling bears grapes since 1983.

Production

The harvesting of wine grapes is done only by hand. Usually, a small group (5 to 8 people) is picking during the week and on the weekends the whole family, friends and even acquaintances join the harvest. The production of white wines begins with a short maceration, followed by pressing, cooling, and low-temperature fermentation. Most white wines are matured in a steel container and only a small percentage in wooden barrels. Red grapes macerate for up to 7 days, which is followed by silent fermentation in a steel container. The wine is then aged in wood.
