Memorial room of Jožef Tominc and Simon Gregorčič

Known as the Nightingale of Gorizia, Simon Gregorčič, a famous Slovenian poet and priest, spent more than 21 years of his life in Gradišče above Prvačina. Here he served as vicar between 1882 and 1887 and again between 1897 and 1899, before moving to Gorizia after his retirement in 1903. His dwelling in Gradišče was newly constructed on Jožef Tominc’s estate that Gregorčič purchased. During this time, he regularly wrote and published poetry, founded a reading society and led a choir.

Today, his life and work are commemorated in many different ways. His bust adorns the Memorial Park, a commemorative plaque at the former parson's house reminds us of his priesthood and the Gregorčič memorial trail, leading from Renče to Gradišče, illustrates the poet's life path.

Jožef Tominc, one of the most renowned Slovenian portraitists of the 19th century, spent the last years of his life in Gradišče above Prvačina and is also buried here. Besides the memorial room, the village is commemorating the talented painter by his bust in the Memorial Park and a commemorative plaque on house number 74. He is also being remembered by the five images in the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which the painter himself donated.
