Winners of the Mayor's Wine of Nova Gorica 2024 Competition Announced

he Municipality of Nova Gorica (MONG), in cooperation with the Tourism Board Nova Gorica and Vipava Valley and the Vipava Valley Wine Consortium, has officially announced the results of the public tender for the Mayor's Wine of Nova Gorica 2024.

This year's evaluation featured 12 local winemakers who submitted a total of 36 wine samples:

• 16 white wines

• 13 red wines

• 7 sparkling wines

The evaluation process took place in two stages. The initial round was evaluated by an expert commission led by Dr. Dejan Bavčar from the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia (KIS), alongside experts from the University of Nova Gorica, KIS, local winemakers, and guest enologists Michael Thomas and Jürgen Aumüller from Schloss Wackerbarth winery, representing Chemnitz (European Capital of Culture 2025).

The top wines advanced to the final tasting evaluated by a 14-member jury. The final panel included Nova Gorica Mayor Samo Turel, Deputy Mayors Anton Harej and Marko Trebušon, Gorizia Mayor Rodolfo Ziberna, GO EPK 2025 Marketing Lead Andreja Repič Argež, local tourism representatives, enologists, and winemakers.

   • Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 Lisjak – Winemaking Lisjak
